Vocalists S. Sowmya and K.N. Shashikiran established Carnatica in 1997. Carnatica established the Global Mobile Gurukulam in the year 1999. It incorporates the advantages of the traditional system of learning, with modern method. Classes are in Carnatic vocal, Instrumental (Vina, Violin, Mridangam, Keyboard, Hawaiian Guitar, Konnakol). They also teach Western music Instruments. The Instruments are Mandolin, Guitar, Saxophone, Piano, Mouth Organ, Violin and Trumpet. They offer courses in Dance (Bharatanatyam and Western). They teach Devotional Music, bhajans and so on. They also take online classes. Carnatica has branches in Adyar, T Nagar, R A Puram, Velachery and Thiruvanmiyur in Chennai. They have other centers at Bangalore and Madurai. Here, students learn face-to-face in the physical presence of a teacher.
