About
TAS Mani is one of the legends in the field of Mridangam, known for his unique style. He started his performance from the age of 10. He is an A grade artist in All India Radio(AIR). He has given many programmes for AIR, Doordarshan and been a part of many of their prime time slots. He has performed in several leading Sabhas and music festivals, all over India. Mani is the most preferred Mridangist by several Vocal and other instrumental musicians. He has performed in prestigious Madras Music Academy for 25 years. In the year 1970, he received the "Henry Wilson Award", for the best accompanying musician.
T.A.S Mani, apart from his performance, is in the field of teaching for the past 50 years. He has trained high number of Mridangam professionals in the country. In 1964, he found the the Karnataka College of Percussion, that now has 8 branches in South India. He is teaches Percussion music, in Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore. He also serve as member in Audition Board of AIR and external examiner for music, conducted by Government of Karnataka. Mani conducts short-term diploma course in music at the University of Poland. He not only trains students from India in percussion music, but from abroad as well. He has travelled to foreign countries to give lecture cum demonstrations in Mridangam.
