Pt. Gopal P. Dubey was born inSeraikella, a town in Jharkhand. It was famous for Chhau dance. He started training in the art form at the early age of 9 years. His grandfather, the Late Shashi Bhushan Dubey, initiated him to the dance form. He was an actor in the Royal court of Seraikella. Dubey started his formal dance training under the Late Guru Natasikhar Banbihari Pattanayak. Then he got trained under the Guru for several years. Then Guru Kedarnath was his Guru. Later he came under the guidance of Guru Padmashree Suddendra Narayan Sing Deo. Since then he has been participating in festivals, marveling audiences with his performances. He is conducting workshops in India and abroad, including Japan, UK, USA, Greece and South Korea. Gopal Prasad Dubey is also a choreographer. He works with the mainstream cinema as well. His choreographic works include two dance ballets for Television. They are "Jeevan Rekha" & "Dharma Chakra". He collaborated with Sharon Lowen on these projects. He received training in Odissi from him. He choreographed and performed in the Chhau tradition in TV serials. The serials were Shyam Benegal's "Bharat Ek Khoj" Ramanand Sagar's "Uttar Ramayan. He also worked in "Amol Palekar's "Mrignayani" and the NFDC film "The Last Vision" directed by A. K. Bir.
