Hailing from the family of musicians, kailash Patra was invited in the art of vocal music from his mother. He received the initial training in violin from Smt. Padmini Khuntia, Pt. Sunakar Sahoo and western music from Mr. Antony Francis. Later under the tutelage of Late Pt. S. R. Kulkarni of Gwalior Gharana of Belgoan district Maharashtra, he learnt the pristine beauty form of the tradition of Gharana. Presently he is under the tutelage of Padmashree Pt. D. K. Datar and Pt. L. K. Pandit, the living legend of Gwalior Gharana. Kailash is an 'A-Grade 'artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He holds a Masters Degree in music (Mumbai) and Political Science (Utkal University) The important feature of Kailash's baaj (playing style) is his natural ability to play the `Gwalior Gayaki Ang' typical North Indian Gamak Patterns. Gifted with melodious voice, touching the soul of the listeners, he is multifaceted artiste of high caliber. His magnetic performances attracted audiences across the world. He has performed in many prestigious music concerts in India as well as abroad.
