Chandra Prabha Chethan started learning Bharathanatyam at the tender age three from Karnataka Kala Shree Guru Smt.Manjula Paramesh. She is a graduate in microbiology and masters in Bharathanatyam from Bangalore University. Chandra has completed her Vidwat examination in Bharatanatyam, she is a recipient of state and central scholarship for dance and in Nattuvangam from Nrittya academy, empanelled as “A” grade artist at Central Song and Drama Division Bangalore and an empanelled artist in ICCR. She has been featured in many dance dramas and dance programmes for Doordarshan, having been recognized as a grade artist. She was successful in completing her Rangapravesha in Bharatanatyam and gained appreciation by the press and audience alike. Her Husband Chethan Gangatkar is also Bharatanatyam dancer and both of them have done many dance performances together.They are proficient in Kuchipudi also including the ‘Kauthuvams’ or temple dance forms. ‘Mahaganapathim Manasa Smarami’ by Muthuswami Dikshitar in Nata Raagam was in praise of Ganapati, resplendent and calm who is worshipped by sages like Vasishta and Vamadeva, he is also described as fond of literature, with Mooshika or Mouse Vahana, etc.Both of them are dynamic dancing couple, internationally reputed dancers, choreographers, teachers and academicians. Both are amongst very few dancers in India who perform Simhanandini, Mayura Kowthvam(Painting a lion and peacock on a canvas while dance) and dancing on an inverted mud pot.
