About
B C Manjunath is a prominent Mridangam performer. Being born into the family of musicians, his interest in the percussion, was visible at a young age. His father Vidwan B K Chandramouli, a legendary mridangam performer, encouraged his talent. He learnt the instrument under the guidance of K.N.Krishnamurthy and T.K.Murthy. Manjunath is giving recitals on stage, for 35 years. Being an "A" grade artist in All India Radio (AIR), he has given many concerts for them and Doordarshan. His accompaniment with eminent Carnatic and Hindustani musicians was well received. He has performed in all the prestigious sabhas and music festivals held in India. He has travelled to all European, Asian and American countries for concerts. Apart from Indian music, Manjunath has given his mark in world music. His ability to read and transcribe the western notes, have made him a versatile musician. His association with Akram Khan company was popular, where he did 175 concerts in a period of 2 years. He has performed with famous world musicians in International festivals held abroad. His recitals in world-famous theatres in Paris, London, New York etc., earned him laurels. Manjunath is not short of awards and titles. He is the recipient of "Ananya Puraskar", "CMANA" and many other prestigious awards. When it comes to teaching, he has given many lectures and workshops on the art of Mridangam. He also conducts online classed at ipassio.com, where the classes are through Skype.
