Born on a leap year day in the USA, Feb 29th, Apoorva Krishna is fortunate to belong to a family of musicians. Starting with her great grand father Vidwan Late Sri S. Rajagopala Iyer , author of the book Sangeetha Akshara Hridaya, Apoorva spent her toddler years learning notu swarams from her grandmother Smt. Shakuntala Murthy, a renowned vocal teacher.Apoorva's interest towards violin took shape at the age of six, when her parents took her to a violin solo concert of her Guru Smt. Anuradha Sridhar at the Livermore temple, while she pointed at the violin and said she wanted to play it! With divine grace, Apoorva’s musical journey commenced from her 7th year. She was very lucky to be initated to Carnatic Music by legendary Guru Lalgudi Srimathi Brahmanandam- the acclaimed violinst of the Lalgudi school, sister of the musician of the century, Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman and from her daughter and disciple, Guru Smt. Anuradha Sridhar. At the age of 10, Apoorva gave her first performance.
