Vidhushi Uma Kumar is a famous Carnatic vocalist and a music researcher in Bangalore. Her initial training in vocal began with Vidwan Somnath. She then continued her further training with Geetha Vasanth Koppa and Renuka Rudrapatna. She also trained under M Prabhakar and Dr Rohini Mohan for light classical music. Vid. Uma earned the privilege of guidance from Nagamani Srinath. She has received several scholarships to continue her studies in music. She is one of B-High graded All India Radio (AIR) artists. Her enthusiastic participation in music competitions won her awards and accolades. "Sangeetha Kousthuba" and "Gamaka Pareena" are the titles she has won, in the field of music. Vid. Uma has performed at several important concerts and music festivals throughout India. Her "Mahati Cultural Academy" aims in promoting Carnatic music and Indian culture. The centre teaches music based on academic sessions and grading system.
