Uma Gopalaswamy is a popular Carnatic musician, from Bangalore. She has trained vocal under R.K. Srikantan and D.K. Jayaraman, and have had opportunity to attend vocal workshops conducted by M.L.VasanthaKumari. She has a master's degree and a doctorate in Carnatic music. Her enthusiasm amplified, to learn the structured music that blends with Bharatnatyam, and started background singing for dance recitals. Her daughter is the famous actress and dancer Lakshmi Gopalaswamy.
