She hails from a musical family and is both a vocalist and violinist. She learnt violin under guru Shri K Sivakumar of Mumbai. She was trained in both violin and vocal by Smt TR Balamani of mumbai. She is the recipient of music scholarship from the Ministry of cultural affairs government of india. She A graded artist of AIl in India. She received the title Surumani by the surusagar samshad. She is part of an all-women instrumental band Streetalatarang led by Vidushi Sukanya Ramgopal, and has performed extensively in India and abroad. Soumya runs a music school Sampradhaya where she actively trains many students both in Vocal and Violin.
