Having trained in Carnatic music, Shailaja kick-started her live-singing career in 1991. A very versatile singer, she is best known in the circuit as Asha Bhosle's voice, though she doesn't like to be tagged with it. Having tried her hand at playback singing, she has settled down to the idea of singing live, bagging five to six shows a month.
