N S Prasad aka Mandolin Prasad is the most celebrated Mandolin player, a graded music composer for All India Radio (AIR). His musical journey started with learning Veena under the tutelage of VIDWAN Sri V Desikachar. His interests shifted to learn Mandolin and learnt under the guidance of Guru Sri Satyanarayana (Ratan). N.S. Prasad is one of Ratan’s prime disciples. He handles other musical instruments like Guitar and Keyboard with ease. He has composed and arranged music for various programs, fusion albums , jingles and national award winning films. Prasad made mandolin a part of sugama sangeeta, a genre that sets contemporary Kannada poetry to music. Mandolin Prasad is passionate towards teaching the instrument for upcoming aspirants. To support the same, he found “Ragashree Institute of Music” which conducts music awareness classes, workshops across the state and abroad. Prasad travels all over the globe for his fusion music concerts. His first solo music album is “Sur Madhur”. He has won many awards and accolades. “Kalashree”, “Kalakovida”, “Swara Samrat” , “Swara Mandara” and “Mandolin Mayura” are the notable titles he has received for his exemplary performances. In 2008, Bangalore Music Academy facilitated Prasad as “Best String Player”.
