He is born in Kalladikodu in Palakkad District of Kerala and was born into a family which encouraged and propagated classical music by all means. His father was a trained vocalist and a harmonium player. His mother was an ardent lover of music who was also a trained kaikkottikkali dancer. Since his father was into music he developed a flair for singing and then it bloomed into his love for learning mridangam when Vidwan Nataraja pillai used to visit his house everyday to rehearse with his father Vidwan Gopalakrishnan Iyer. He started his career as a Mridangam player by playing for Bhajans and started accompanying classical dancers. It was 1992 when he started his association with Guru B Bhanumati and Nrityakalamandiram. Being a musician and being a part of a choreographic process has also widened his horizons in playing for dance. He considers himself very privileged to work with such wonderful, hardworking, dedicated and humble artists like Guru Bhanumathi and Sheela Chandrashekar.
