Shri. M A Narasimhachar was one of the greatest connoisseurs of Carnatic classical music. He started his own school of Music, “Gana Kala Mandira” in the year 1942 in Mysore, with the aim of imparting formal training in classical music and spreading the fragrance of this divine art among youngsters. He has succeeded in his mission as the school is in its 65th year of training students and bringing out singers in chaste classical Carnatic music. In recognition of his services in the field of Music, Sri M A Narasimhachar was conferred the Title of “Gana Kala Bhushana” by the Karnataka Ganakala Parishad in the year 1987 and “Karnataka Kala Tilaka” by the Sangeetha Nritya Academy in the year 1992. He received the “Rajya Sangeetha Vidwan” award by the Government of Karnataka in the year 1999. His other awards include, “Sangeetha Jyothi” by H.H.Shivananda Saraswathi ; “Kala Bhushana” by Tyagaraja Gana Sabha, Bangalore; “Kala Jyothi” by the Nada Jyothi Tyagaraja Sabha; “Sangeetha Vidya Sagara” by Jhendara and Gayatri Seva Samithi; Karnataka State Rajyotsava award in the year 1992, Sangeetha Ratna T.Chowdiah State Level Award” by the Academy of Music in the year 1996 and many more. Some of his notable music productions are:- · Nowka Charitra- Tyagaraja’s Musical Opera. · Pallaki Seva Prabhanda- King Sarfoji’s Musical Opera. · Guruguha Stuthi- A collection of Dikshitar’s compositions(Navavidha bhakti). · Alakalalla of Tyagaraja. · Compositions of Valajpet Venkataramana Bhagavathar. Apart from these, he has produced many more musical features and Lecture demonstrations.
