About
Vidushi Shanti Rao is a vibrant Veena musician, from Bangalore. She started her musical training from the age of 12. She learnt Carnatic vocal from T.A Venkatarama Iyer and Veena from Harihara Iyer. For her advanced training, she was under the tutelage of Chitti Babu. She also trained under R.K Srikantan, R.K.Suryanarayan and Pallavi Chandrappa for Vocal and Veena.
Shanti Rao plays both Carnatic and contemporary styles of music in Veena. She has given many Carnatic concerts all over India and abroad. She had toured and performed at Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, U.K, Germany and America. She had the privilege of performing for Queen Elizabeth II at the UK.
Shanti has won several awards and recognition for her contribution to Carnatic music. Her innovation "Double string Veena" earned her appreciations from many music gurus. She has also released several Carnatic and fusion music albums. She is the recipient of many awards like "Best veena player", to name a few. She is currently a visiting music professor at Bangalore University.She is the founder of "Veena Vani school of music", teaching music to all music enthusiasts.
