Kalabhooshana Vidwan H. Ramachandra Rao is the senior most Carnatic musician, from Bangalore. Rao grew up listening to his father rendering the kritis of Sri. Patnam Subramania Iyer and Saint Thyagaraja. Soon, he started training under Sri Anoor Suryanarayana and Sri Veena Subbaraya Shastry. He also received guidance from the Violinist, Sri Anoor S Ramakrishna. At the age of 16, Vid. Rao gave his first performance at a music festival in Bangalore. Since then, he became the most sought after Carnatic vocalist, a regular performer in AIR. His affiliation with AIR was for 35 years and gave many programmes in AIR and Doordarshan. His Carnatic recitals were well appreciated at many prestigious sabhas and music festivals. Vid. Rao is the recipient of many prestigious awards and titles. "Kala Saraswati", "Kala Bhooshana", "Artist of the year", are to name a few. Though he performs on stage, his interest now lies in imparting his knowledge to students. He follows his own style in teaching the traditional ragas and kritis. He is also involved in translated the works of Sri. Patnam Subramania Iyer and Saint Thyagaraja from Tamil to Kannada.
