Smt. Gayatri Ramaratnam, Artistic Director of Silambam School of Dance, is a disciple of gurus Padmabhusan Vidwan Sri Madurai N.Krishnan and Padmasri. Dr.Sudharani Raghupathy and has been learning and teaching at Shree Bharatalaya, Chennai for over 30 years. Under the banner of Shree Bharatalaya, she has performed numerous dance ballets and also given several solo performances across Tamil Nadu & Bangalore. She is a “B”-grade artist of Doordarshan, New Delhi and was awarded the CCRT Government of India scholarship. Her awards include the Dr. MGR Award for the best performer in the Spirit of Youth Festival 1998 at Music Academy, Chennai, and the Bharata Kala Bhushana award in 2003. Gayatri Ramaratnam is the daughter of Dr.S.Ramaratnam who has been honoured with the title of "Natya Nataka kala Pravinah". She is the Center head of Silambam Dance School in Bangalore. It has various branches across the world. Silambam is an arts organization and a premier dance school in the Hyderabad area. Silambam aims not only to impart dance education, but also to turn out well-rounded, artistically sensitive and culturally refined individuals. Silambam students receive a holistic education, which includes firm grounding in Bharatanatyam theory and cultural history, basic Indian classical music instruction, fitness and body conditioning, and rigorous fundamental training and technique refinement. Much emphasis is placed on mental and physical discipline, and on the importance of practice, passion, dedication, and perseverance.
