About

Amrutha Venkatesh is a popular Carnatic vocalist, from Bangalore. She started learning music from the age of 4 under M.T. Selvanarayana and gave her first music recital at the age of 6. She also learnt music from Charumathi Ramachandran and Veena from Smt. Suma Sudhindra. Soon, her performance was well appreciated and took mentorship from late S.V. Krishnan. Under his tutelage, Amrutha performed several concerts in Nada Inbam with good reviews. She has performed at prestigious sabhas and music festivals in South India. Amrutha has won prizes at many competitions conducted by AIR. Doordarshan and AIR have been broadcasting recitals in Vocal and Veena. She is the recipient of Voleti Venkateswarlu, Emani Sankara Sastry prize, Best vocalist award, Spirit of Youth and CMANA awards. Endowed with a good voice that has range, depth and good shruti alignment, Amrutha is able to deliver her music with a pleasing tonal clarity that is common in Hindustani music but often dismissed in the Carnatic system, in pursuit of other ideals. Amrutha Venkatesh learnt music under Gurus Sri M.T. Selvanarayana, Smt Charumathi Ramachandran and Prince Rama Varma. She is also Adept at playing the Veena and has passed Vidwat with Distinction in 2003 She is an ‘A’ Grade artist of All India Radio and has received many awards including DK Pattammal award, Ramabhadran Centenary Award and Best Main Artist Award from Hamsadhwani, Chennai (2007) and Vani Mahal, Chennai (2008). She has a number of albums and recordings in her name. Also, she runs a youtube channel showcasing her performances.
