R.S.R Srikanth, an ideal combination of perfomer and guru, had his initial rigorous training in mridangam under Nachiarkovil Sri. V.Raghu. He has also learnt laya intricacies from Karaikudi Sri. N. Krishnamurthy.Subsequently, Srikanth took up advanced training under the tutelage of mridangam maestro Padma Vibhushan Umayalpuram Sri K.Sivaraman. Presently he is under the guidance of Kalaimamani, Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Srimushnam Sri V Raja Rao.Over the course of nearly three decades, Srikanth has accompanied several leading musicians including Sri. T.V. Gopalakrishnan, Sri. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Smt. Neela Ramgopal, the Hyderabad Brothers and Smt. Suguna Purushothaman. He is an - A Grade mridangam artiste of the All India Radio.He was conferred the title of Asthana Vidwan of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt by the Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt in the year 2017. He was also awarded the Syama Sastri Sangeetha Ratna award in 2018.Srikanth and his wife Dr. Chithra Srikanth, through their institution 'Dhwani' in Bangalore, teach mridangam and Carnatic vocal music to scores of students.
