Hindi cinema, popularly known as Bollywood and formerly as Bombay cinema, refers to the film industry primarily based in Mumbai, engaged in production of motion pictures in Hindi language. The term is generally accepted for Hindi language movies and music made from any city.

The term Bollywood is derived from Bombay (the former name of Mumbai) and Hollywood. Similar terms for other languages include Tollywood (Telugu), Kollywood - (Tamil from Kodambakam, Chennai), Mollywood (Malayalam) and Sandalwood (Kannada).
